Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right! – Henry Ford
Bethany’s life’s passion is to empower people through an understanding of simple financial and economic ideas and to learn the skills that will enable them to thrive financially.
It is not the amount of money you earn, but what you do with it that really counts. When a person realizes that they can create their own reality through mindful choice, that person is truly free.
Where the Passion Began
Bethany has lived with budgeting and finances for her entire life. She grew up in her family’s business, a small chain of furniture stores, where she first learned the importance of keeping to a budget and staying on track.
When she was a child, Bethany loved to play ‘store’, keeping ledgers of imaginary transactions of purchases and sales. Add this to a soul with a Bugs Bunny-like personality and the result is an accountant with a sense of humor.
In the Home
Bethany holds two degrees. First, she has a P.h.D. in the world’s oldest profession. Yep, she’s a “housewife.” Being completely comfortable with this title, Bethany understands the term ‘economy’ is Greek in origin (economos), and refers to a housewife who shops for the household. People in charge of their household finances can think of themselves as home economists. These days it is more important than ever for people to have a healthy relationship with money and to know what they value. This is because they must make daily money decisions on the fly, based on their subjective values and resource constraints. They strive to maximize their family’s satisfaction on a fixed budget.
In her own family, Bethany utilizes her beliefs and skills while honoring her values and integrity. Over her lifetime, she has experienced the benefits of developing a healthy relationship with money, and she loves teaching others how to make this work for themselves and their families.
Education and Experience
In addition to her important role at home, Bethany has also obtained a B.S. in Accounting with a minor in Law and Economics. She worked for five years in public accounting as an auditor, and two years in corporate accounting as well.
While homeschooling her three children, Bethany provided her accounting skills to several nonprofit organizations.
Bethany teaches that you must begin right where you are in the present moment. Then, you must take responsibility for your choices in making money, spending money, and saving money.
Are You Ready?
Can you do this? This is where the Henry Ford quote comes in. Bethany believes that your mindset and commitment to the process of getting right with your money depends on this:
Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right! – Henry Ford
You have to truly believe you can do it in order for the process to be successful because it will take diligent work on your part to create and continue a healthy relationship with your money.
Bethany, through her teaching tools, helps you to realize that you need to stop pining for what you don’t have, and start enjoying what you do have. When you recognize that you have a choice, “I can’t afford it” becomes “that’s not how I choose to spend my money”.
Choice and responsibility create freedom and power.
